Best thing would be try to turn on your firewall. it is designed to block unauthorized access while permitting authorized communications. It is a device or set of devices configured to permit, deny, encrypt, decrypt, or proxy all (in and out) computer traffic between different security domains based upon a set of rules and other criteria.
Try to put some anti spy-ware/antivirus..... make sure it is updated. this is used to prevent, detect, and remove malware, including computer viruses, worms, and trojan horses. Such programs may also prevent and remove adware, spyware, and other forms of malware.
another would be downloading firefox add ons Adblock Plus. you may notice different ads pop out to your screen this may annoy you sometimes and some of it carries spywares. the link is in here. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
also you can download the WOT(Web of trust) this is a browser add on. It will keep you safe from online scams, identity theft, spyware, spam, viruses and unreliable shopping sites. WOT warns you before you interact with a risky website. It's easy and it's free.
Best thing would be.... Never CLICK if you are not sure what it is.
